Hot on the heels of big wins at both the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, The Handmaid’s Tale dropped an incendiary new trailer for Season 2. The hit series won’t return until April, but Hulu certainly did their part to stoke fans’ fascination until then.

Clocking in at just over a minute, the teaser is chock-full of intriguing tidbits. We see Offred, known in pre-dystopian times as June, wearing the same leather mask worn by Emily (Alexis Bledel) in Season 1 when she is carted off for punishment. We see Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) looking distraught. We see Moira (Samira Wiley) in tears. We see signs of the resistance, yet seconds later see nooses hanging from trees. And in the final few moments of the teaser, we see Offred set something afire.
It’s safe to say Season 2 is going to be lit.
During a Television Critics’ Association panel discussion, Moss — who won both a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Best Actress award for her role as Offred — touched on the obvious reason the series’ second season will be even more suspenseful than the first.

“When she does have the baby, the baby gets taken away from her. She can’t be its mother,” Moss explained. “It makes for good drama.” The second season’s tagline, “Whatever is silenced will clamor to be heard,” seems to back up this sentiment, suggesting a revolution is afoot.

Still, it’s unlikely Offred or the Mayday resistance will successfully overcome the powers that be because, well, that would make for one short series, wouldn’t it?
Besides, the network has already hinted at the turmoil the women will face, saying, “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season 2, Offred and all our characters will fight against — or succumb to — this dark truth.”
