These Big Little Lies Stars Are Making So Much Money for Season 2

Before Big Little Lies became an award show darling and a huge hit for HBO, there were no plans for a second season. Oh, how things change after a show rakes in a boatload of Emmys, Golden Globes and more. Now that Big Little Lies Season 2 is officially in the works, stars and producers Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are set to get a fat pay raise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Witherspoon and Kidman are looking at earning $1 million per episode for Season 2, not including their executive producer fees. That’s a big payday for a show they both seem to love — win-win. The site also reports that supporting stars Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz will be getting big raises for the second season as well.

We don’t know the exact reasons for the big pay bumps, but Big Little Lies‘ acclaim and ratings probably all have something to do with it. There’s also the fact that none of the stars had a second season in their contracts, which meant new contracts for Season 2, giving them the perfect opening to negotiate. Witherspoon is reportedly earning $1.25 million per episode for her upcoming drama series on Apple TV, which may also have impacted HBO’s decision to bump up her pay. She and Kidman both reportedly made around $250,000 per episode for Big Little Lies Season 1.

Since Big Little Lies Season 1 was based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, which doesn’t have a sequel, we have no idea what to expect in terms of plot when the show returns to HBO. We do know, though, that with Witherspoon and Kidman still at the helm, it’s likely to be just as powerfully female-driven and exciting as the first season was.
