Ed Sheeran has big news in the new year: He and his girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, got engaged just before they rang in 2018! Sheeran made the big announcement on Instagram, and it’s almost too adorable.

“Got myself a fiancé just before new year,” he wrote alongside a pic of himself kissing Seaborn on the cheek, posted on Saturday, Jan. 20. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”

“Chuffed” is British slang for happy or pleased, so we take it the pair’s felines get along well and won’t mind being part of a blended family. We can’t wait to hear what’s on the horizon for this couple, who already has one of the sweetest love stories in show business.

Sheeran and Seaborn met back when they were both students at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, England. They were just friends, and they lost touch after graduation when Seaborn left England to play field hockey for Duke University in the U.S. But Seaborn moved to New York after graduating college and they reunited in 2015 and started dating. She moved back to England soon after to be closer to him.
Sheeran has also admitted that Seaborn inspires a lot of his sweet lyrics, and his song “Perfect” is about her and their relationship. “I found a girl beautiful and sweet … I never knew you were the someone waiting for me … ‘Cause we were just kids when we fell in love,” he sings. Is anything more perfect than that?
