The Royal Family Reportedly Asked Princess Eugenie to Postpone Her Wedding

Updated Jan. 24, 2018, 12:30 p.m. PT: In addition to having their own royal wedding in the same year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are apparently causing more problems, as Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, tries to plan to tie the knot with Jack Brooksbank.

According to the Daily Mail, Eugenie was eyeing September for her wedding, but the royal family asked her to postpone until October because Harry and Markle will be on a royal tour for the month of September.

“There is talk of a number of foreign tours for Prince Harry and Miss Markle this year, and September is a date that has been mooted. There is nothing concrete yet, but it looks as if Eugenie and Jack will go for October instead,” a source explained.

Brooksbank’s grandmother confirmed the news.

“I do know that they’re now not going to get married in September,” she said. “He [Jack] said ‘We can’t get married in September now so we will have to get married in October.’ They [the Royal family] have got something else going on then I think so they couldn’t. So he just said that if they can’t get married in September they will have to get married in October.”

Can you imagine trying to plan a wedding with the added stress of having to coordinate travel schedules for a family like the British royals? Good luck to Princess Eugenie. It sounds like she may need it.

Original story, published Jan. 22, 2018: Who knew that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t the only royals planning to tie the knot this year? Princess Eugenie, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, just announced her engagement, and her wedding will have a few things in common with Harry and Markle’s.

Eugenie and her new fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, announced their happy news Monday, Jan. 21, closely followed by the traditional celebratory engagement photo shoot. Seriously, check out that rock, which bears a real resemblance to the one worn by Eugenie’s mom’s, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.

Really, though, the couple looks so happy.

There’s no date set for this royal wedding yet, but E! News reports it’s set for this fall, and the couple will tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, the same place where Harry and Markle are having their May wedding.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip released a statement saying they are “very pleased” and “wish the couple the best,” though Eugenie’s fiancé probably wasn’t subject to the same royal approval process as Markle — Eugenie is only eighth in line for the throne. Both Eugenie’s and Brooksbank’s parents, though, sound thrilled.

“Jack is an absolutely outstanding young man and Eugenie and he have got to know each other over a number of years, and I’m really thrilled for them,” Eugenie’s father, the Duke of York, said. “I am just completely overjoyed for them and wish them every happiness.”

Brooksbank’s parents said in a statement that they are “completely over the moon” and “very excited.”

“We could not be more delighted with the news of the engagement,” they added.

Congrats to the future royal newlyweds!
