Despite their decision to “consciously uncouple” in March 2014, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have managed to remain close, even with their divorce recently finalized.

In fact, in an interview with Stephen Colbert on Thursday’s The Late Show, Paltrow described Martin as “like my brother.” She added, “We’re very familial. It’s nice. It’s great.”
Maybe an interesting term for an ex-husband with whom you’ve had two kids. In fact, Colbert even called her out on it. But Paltrow took it in stride, jokingly responding, “Which would explain the divorce.”
Paltrow explained it was her kids who were the driving force in keeping the family together as a unit despite the separation.
“Divorce is terrible. It was very painful. It was really hard,” Paltrow said. “And I think we really genuinely wanted our kids to be as unscathed as possible, and we thought if we could really maintain the family even though we weren’t a couple, that was kind of the goal.”

Mission accomplished. Not only do Martin and Paltrow remain close, but Martin has even gotten to know Paltrow’s new fiancé, Brad Falchuk.

Falchuk and Paltrow went public with their relationship at the beginning of January, announcing their engagement via Paltrow’s brand Goop.

“We feel incredibly lucky to have come together at this juncture in our lives when our collective successes and failures can serve as building blocks for a healthy and happy relationship,” the two said in a statement to Good Morning America.

The two met in 2014, when Paltrow had a guest appearance on Falchuk’s show at the time, Glee.
