Updated Feb. 7, 7:30 a.m. PT: Rather than postpone any tour dates as was previously announced, the Dancing with the Stars: Live! Light Up the Night tour held it’s previously scheduled performance at the Coronado Performing Arts Center in Rockford, Illinois, on Tuesday night, just one day after the show’s tour bus was involved in a 70-car pileup near Ames, Iowa.
No one from the tour was seriously injured in the crash, and while previous estimates of the fatalities resulting from the crash were numerous, it appears that number has been adjusted by People, who reported that only one woman was killed in the accident and four others were injured.
As for the DWTS tour members, they were quick to update their fans on their states of mind and health in the wake of the accident. Dancers Sasha Farber and Emma Slater said in a statement to fans they were fine. “Thinking of everyone involved. Just wanted to let people who were asking know that we are ok and are so grateful that non [sic] of us on the tour bus was [sic] hurt. Everyone was checked out and we’re back with our group.”
Meanwhile, it was announced at the start of the Rockford show that adjustments had been made to some performances to accommodate those who were recovering from minor injuries. According to one attendee speaking to E! News, “They made an announcement at the beginning that the performance would be a little different, but you could hardly tell.”
Original article, published Feb. 6: There was some distressing news coming out of Iowa on Monday evening, with reports that the Dancing with the Stars tour bus had been involved in a fatal crash. While it’s reported that no one in the DWTS cast or crew was seriously hurt or injured, the mere mention of “fatal” in these reports in enough to hurt your heart.

Despite not naming specific people injured in the crash, DWTS reps did release a statement to Entertainment Tonight about the incident. “One of the tour buses transporting cast and crew of Dancing with the Stars: Live! Light Up the Night was involved in a multi-car accident this afternoon due to bad weather while en route to Ames, Iowa,” the show said. “All cast and crew members are fine, with some recovering from minor injuries.”

DWTS went on to say that given the nature of the accident, the tour would be postponed while everyone took some time to heal up. “Given this unforeseen accident, and the fact that the safety and health of our cast and crew is of the utmost importance, tonight’s show at Stephens Auditorium in Ames, Iowa, has been canceled. To anyone involved in the accident, the entire cast sends their best wishes for a speedy recovery, and their deepest apologies to all of the fans who have been waiting to see the show tonight.”

Local news station KCCI 8 out of Des Moines reported on the crash as well, reporting seven deaths and approximately 185 individual accidents within the massive car crash, which involved at least 70 vehicles. According to KCCI 8, it appears that a snowstorm is to blame for this horrendous incident.
Earlier that day, cast member Frankie Muniz commented on the snowstorm while tweeting updates about the tour’s progression. “Riding in the bus on our way to the show tonight in Ames, Iowa, looking out the window at the snow covered ground in this crazy blizzard listening to unreleased songs of a band I was in 8 years ago…” he wrote. The tweet was posted mere hours before the first reports of the crash came in.
