Time flies when you’re having fun. Or, in the case of 19-year-old Sofia Richie and 34-year-old Scott Disick, when you’re mystifying the masses with your romance. It’s been nine months since the two became a couple, and Sofia’s famous father, Lionel Richie, is finally sharing his thoughts on the relationship.

After his highly publicized (and televised) breakup with Kourtney Kardashian, Scott Disick reportedly dated a string of celebrities, socialites and models before committing to Sofia.

Given his track record, his past history of alcohol abuse and the fact that he has three children with Kardashian, Disick can’t be an easy sell to Sofia’s parents.
However, Lionel has remained relatively mum on the dating rumors about his daughter and Disick — until now. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the iconic singer and soon-to-be American Idol host shared his thoughts on what he sees as a fleeting romance.

“She’s 19. When you’re 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don’t know. But for right now it’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise,” Lionel said.
Laughing, Lionel admitted he recognizes the pattern from his own past. “Now I know what my parents meant when I came through the door with my Afro and my girlfriend and said, ‘Dad, I’m in love,’ and [he] looked at me and said, ‘OK, we’re going to leave you alone for a minute and you’ll figure it out,'” he said, adding, “My daughter is getting me back for my Afro days!”

Still, Lionel is nothing if not fair. When asked what he thought about Disick as a person, the Grammy winner tactfully replied, “From what I met of him, he’s a very nice guy.”
That’s not all he said, though.
“When you hang around the reality world, who knows what you are really doing?” Lionel elaborated, calling the Kardashians a “well-oiled machine.” He went on to say, “I don’t really know what to think. I told Sofia I will have no opinion. I’ll continue to be my cheerful self and move on.”

The couple is fast approaching their one-year anniversary, so at some point, Lionel will likely have to come to terms with the relationship. Until then, kudos to him for supporting his daughter and respecting her life choices.
