Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are clearly deeply in love. Nobody has any doubts about that, least of all them, and that’s why Harry has reportedly rejected the idea of signing a prenup with his wife-to-be before their wedding this May.

The Daily Mail reports that a prenup was an option on the table for the couple, but that Harry wasn’t into that idea — not one bit.
“There was never any question in Harry’s mind that he would sign a prenup,” a source told the publication. “He’s determined that his marriage will be a lasting one, so there’s no need for him to sign anything.”

There’s also the factor that prenups aren’t as big a thing in the U.K. as they are in the U.S. The Daily Mail asked a British lawyer about this, who said, “At present a prenuptial agreement does not carry the same weight as a Court order and will not ‘automatically’ be upheld or enforced by an English or Welsh court in the event of a divorce and/or disagreement.” That doesn’t necessarily mean a prenup is totally invalid if Harry and Markle were to sign one, but it just doesn’t carry the same legal weight as it does in the U.S.

While Markle had a successful acting career before quitting to focus full-time on becoming a royal, it’s estimated she’s worth around $5 million, while Harry’s net worth likely tops $40 million, including his inheritance from Princess Diana’s death and his other assets. Prenups aren’t common in the royal family, though; Prince Charles didn’t have one before his divorce from Diana, and Prince William didn’t sign one before he married Kate Middleton, now the Duchess of Cambridge.
