Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler Have Big Plans & You’re Going to Like Them

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler‘s careers have intersected in a lot of ways. They’ve done a handful of movies together — one rom-com every 10 years for the last three decades — and they’re both now on Netflix. But will they ever cross paths again? It seems likely, right? They’re both on the same network, so why wouldn’t they collaborate on another rom-com? They’re so great together!

That’s pretty much exactly the attitude Barrymore has about it. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, she was asked when she and Sandler are going to make another movie together, because come on, they have to make another movie together.

“Adam and I text all the time about our next thing, and we’re like, ‘We’re so fat. We’re so old. What the fuck?'” Barrymore answered. “Like, literally, the last thing I suggested to him was like ‘On Golden Pond question mark.'”

Honestly, we could see them doing a revival of the classic ’80s flick. Plus, revivals are so in right now. There’s even another ’80s film that’s on Barrymore’s radar for her next Sandler collab.

“I’m into Planes, Trains and Automobiles with me and Adam on Netflix,” she said, “except I’m, like, Del Griffith.”

All these joking ideas aside, fans would love to see Barrymore and Sandler together on-screen again. Remember how great they were in 1998’s The Wedding Singer? It’s a classic. And 2004’s 50 First Dates was just as good if not better. They came together again in 2014 for Blended, which got less hype but is definitely worth a watch. That means, in order to stick with their one-movie-per-decade pattern, they still have a few years to lock down what their next project will be.

But with Sandler contracted by Netflix to make a series of original movies and Barrymore starring on The Santa Clarita Diet, is there a better time than now? If Netflix knows what it’s doing, it’ll take advantage of this golden opportunity that’s currently right under its roof.
