The news of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum’s split clearly shook the internet. They seemed like a rock-solid couple, but now we’re wondering whether any seemingly perfect Hollywood marriage is safe (something we probably should have wondered when Chris Pratt and Anna Faris split, but we like to believe true love will win in the end, OK?!). As is the case with trends like these, there are some couples we love who end up getting stuck in the crosshairs of breakup rumors that are later proven false. This, it seems, only serves to capitalize on our fears that no couple we love is safe from the breakup bug.

One of those rock-solid couples who recently found themselves at the center of a glut of breakup rumors is Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. They, like the aforementioned beloved couples, seem to have a truly enviable marriage. Their easy rapport with one another, ability to make lighthearted jokes at one another’s expense and be rock star parents while juggling busy schedules makes them a couple worth rooting for. To be totally honest, if any of those breakup rumors turned out to be true, we would all be heartbroken.
As such, it’s easy to imagine that if you’re Reynolds and Lively, those breakup rumors have to be incredibly annoying. They’re already forced to have so many aspects of their lives put on constant public display, and now people are going to speculate about the strength of their relationship too? Luckily, they seem to have developed a sense of humor about it, as was the case recently when, in the span of just a couple of days, Reynolds repeatedly took the funny route in combating these rumors. He’s been shutting them down with some hilarious tweets, including this recent one in response to a headline saying he joined Lively and his mom on the red carpet.
We’re never splitting. She’ll always be my mom. No matter how much jazz-cabbage she smokes with her rollerblading friends.

This comes swiftly on the heels of Reynolds’ first breakup rumor takedown, which happened on March 31. In that instance, he took on another headline that said he and Lively were headed for a split because they were too busy to spend time together. Reynolds’ reply (“I wish. I could use a little ‘me time'”) feels like something so perfect for the situation at hand. It was funny, wry and right to the point — classic Reynolds.

At the end of the day, though, these kinds of rumors only make the rumor-starter look dumb. Reynolds and Lively deserve to be able to live in peace without a constant barrage of complete strangers questioning their marriage. Even though they just use this as an opportunity to have fun and show how strong their relationship truly is, they deserve to go back to joking about things like their kids and Lively’s total transformation for her movies. #EndTheRumors!
