It’s Friday the 13th, which means it’s an unlucky day (if you believe that kind of thing). And while we expect only unfortunate things to happen on the actual day, Will Ferrell was dealt an extra dose of misfortune when he got into a scary car accident just an hour before the clock struck 12 a.m. on Friday, April 13.
TMZ published news of the accident first. Ferrell, one of four passengers in a chauffeur-driven SUV, was reportedly headed home from Funny or Die’s Glam Up the Midterms campaign in San Diego when the accident occurred in Orange County.
According to a witness report, the SUV was heading down a stretch of highway when another car sideswiped it hard enough to cause it to flip over. TMZ also noted that beer bottles were found at the scene of the accident, but it wasn’t clear which vehicle the beer bottles came from. Authorities confirmed that a sideswipe happened on the right rear of the SUV but claimed that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors. Rather, officials report that the driver of the car that sideswiped the SUV fell asleep at the wheel, causing the accident.

In the same report, TMZ included video footage of Ferrell being loaded into the ambulance on a stretcher — luckily, he appeared well enough to hold his head up and make a phone call, which is hopefully an indication that his injuries are minimal. No arrests have been made at the time of reporting.
Deadline later reported that Ferrell was released from the hospital early Friday morning in OK condition. The other passengers — who haven’t been identified by the press — sustained injuries of varying degrees. No specific details have been provided about their condition.
Ferrell and his team have not made any official statements yet, but we’ll keep you updated as more information is released.
