Jenna Dewan Just Took a Big Step Toward Moving On

Jenna Dewan isn’t the type to dwell on negativity. The actor likes to live in the light, and that’s precisely what she’s been doing since she and husband Channing Tatum announced their split after nearly nine years of marriage. And while it seems like that heartbreaking news came only yesterday (real time: April 2), Dewan seems intent on moving forward — she has now dropped her married last name. Dewan un-Tatum-ed herself across her social media platforms.

Yep, the World of Dance judge has returned to the name she used prior to falling in love and getting hitched to her Step Up co-star. While many women choose to do the same in the wake of separating from their spouses, Dewan’s decision to do so sends a message to fans that there may not be hope for a reconciliation. Spoiler: A lot of people had a lot of opinions about it.

“That was fast. Most people are not in a hurry but it seems like she been over it for awhile,” one social media commenter wrote. Others, who noticed the dropped name on an Instagram picture of Dewan in intimate apparel for Danskin, called the actress “self-absorbed” and accused her of discarding her marriage “like trash we throw away.”

Of course, Dewan and Tatum are the only ones who know what transpired in their marriage that led them to split. But given that they issued a joint statement underscoring that the separation is mutual and that they remain best friends, we really have no reason to believe otherwise (and certainly not that Dewan threw away their marriage). In fact, of the more than 240,000 people who’ve liked Dewan’s Danskin pic so far, Tatum was among them.

Us Weekly reports that “Channing definitely misses Jenna” and that Dewan is trying to keep her mind occupied with a “crazy work schedule.” For an amicably separated couple just trying to figure out how to do life without each other every day, that sounds about right.

So, if dropping her married name helps Dewan in the healing process, we say good for her.

At the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Hope and Heritage Gala on April 21, Dewan glowed as she accepted the 2018 Humanitarian Award for supporting the organization by fundraising and visiting patients. Her date? Her adorable dad.

This is undoubtedly a difficult time in the actor’s life — there’s no handbook for dealing with divorce. But we love that Dewan isn’t afraid to do what feels right for her during this unexpected transition.
