Nick Viall Nabbed This General Hospital Role

Step aside, Mario Lopez, there’s a new host in town. Fans of General Hospital are gearing up for the Nurses Ball, the show’s annual showcase of glitz and glamour, and according to TV Insider, ABC has tapped The Bachelor‘s Nick Viall to host this year’s event. Viall will reportedly handle the red carpet interviews and step inside to watch some of the live performances.

While Viall got his start in reality TV, he’s branched out a lot since handing his final rose to Vanessa Grimaldi (they’ve since broken up; he supposedly rebounded with January Jones). After Viall competed (and lost) on Dancing With the Stars, he decided to throw his reality TV career to the wayside for a future in scripted TV. “I have zero plans to do reality TV,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m certainly done with anything Bachelor-related, but I’m very thankful for my time.”

According to ET, Viall enrolled in acting lessons and they paid off quickly. In the last year, he guest starred on an episode of Speechless and had a small role on the TV movie A Christmas Cruise, where he played a hotel manager and shared a few scenes with Vivica A. Fox and Kristoff St. John. Not bad, huh?

But now it seems Viall is transitioning to on-camera host, and this could be his most dramatic career change yet. Chris Harrison had better watch out!

The Nurses Ball got its start back in 1994 when Lucy Coe, played by Lynn Herring, suggested it as a fundraiser for HIV/AIDS research. It became an annual event until the soap discontinued it in 2001. General Hospital picked it up again in 2013, and the Nurses Ball has become part of the regular summer programming for the characters of Port Charles. Last year, Lopez stood in as the red carpet host.
