Dancing with the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd left the stage early on Saturday during the Grand Prairie, Texas, leg of their Confidential tour. Murgatroyd took to Instagram on Sunday to apologize to fans and explain her absence, describing what she called a “very scary” illness that forced her to leave the stage for the first time in her nearly 20-year career.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Murgatroyd described waking up nauseous Saturday morning and how that quickly progressed to vomiting, chills and a fever. She said she “just tried to sleep it off before the show” but when showtime rolled around, she says, “I could hardly walk and I couldn’t feel my arms or legs. […] I tried my best to dance but my legs were giving out. Apart from it being very embarrassing, it was very scary.”

Murgatroyd said she thought her symptoms pointed to food poisoning, which a list of symptoms on the Mayo Clinic website supports. According to Entertainment Tonight, her apology post came hours before Murgatroyd was set to take the stage in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday. The outlet also reports that Murgatroyd was able to return to the stage in Missouri, performing less than 24 hours after her illness sidelined her in Texas — also suggesting food poisoning according to common symptoms and a timeline of the illness.
Thankfully, it seems that no permanent damage has been done. In a follow-up Instagram post on Sunday night, Murgatroyd shared a photo from the Kansas City show and wrote, “KANSAS CITY You guys were incredible tonight! It felt so good to be back on stage,” complete with celebration emojis and a strong arm.

Murgatroyd is currently on a national tour with her husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and his brother, Val. She thanked both in her Instagram post for their professionalism and support and thanked the rest of the cast and crew of the show for altering things at the last minute. It’s good to see Murgatroyd is back to dancing and no longer sidelined. Let’s hope she continues to rest, heal and get back to her old self as quickly as possible.
