John Cena & Nikki Bella Share Inspirational Posts on Would-Be Wedding Day

A few months ago, John Cena and Nikki Bella were counting down the days to May 5, the date of their wedding. But by the time that date rolled around, Cena and Bella were no longer a couple. So, instead of sharing sweet wedding snapshots, the recently separated duo took to social media just ahead of May 5 to post positive messages about the future.

Every cloud has a silver lining, and both Cena and Bella seem to be staying positive during this undoubtedly challenging time in their personal lives. On Friday, Bella posted the quote, “Chin up princess or the crown slips.”

Her former fiancé shared a similarly inspirational sentiment on Twitter, saying, “If you choose to keep moving, no matter how low the road takes you, it will eventually begin to climb back up. #NeverGiveUp.” He followed it with another message on Saturday: “Learn from your mistakes. A life of regret is a life unfulfilled.”

The WWE-champ-turned-movie star also posted part of the cover of Kresley Cole’s book Day Zero. Although Cena didn’t caption the image, “day zero” could be interpreted as referring to the start of his life without Bella.

The breakup came as a shock to fans, who’d been invested in Bella and Cena’s love story from its start six years ago. However, relationships are inherently personal, and no one but Bella and Cena know what happened in theirs to lead them to call off their engagement weeks before their wedding. What is more clear is that these two love each other deeply, and that doesn’t change overnight (no matter who you are).

“It sucks,” Cena told Entertainment Tonight a week after the split. “There’s no other way to say [it]. I love Nicole with all my heart, and that’s that.”

The statement Bella posted on Instagram to announce the breakup essentially pointed to the same sentiment — whatever the issue that caused the couple to split, it wasn’t a lack of love. “While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another,” Bella shared at the time.

So, fans who are having trouble coming to terms with the fact that Cena and Bella won’t be saying “I do” this month can take comfort in knowing that these two still care for each other. And hey, they could still make it down the aisle one day. If we’ve learned anything from the realms of pro wrestling and Hollywood, it’s that anything is possible.
