Fans of the HGTV series Flip or Flop better buckle up — Season 8 sounds like it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Fresh off of Christina and Tarek El Moussa‘s January 2018 divorce, the pair is preparing for the premiere of the next season of Flip or Flop. Since the season was filmed amid the breakdown of the former couple’s relationship (they split in December 2016), the El Moussa’s are addressing how the show will portray that.

As reported by Us Weekly, a press release was sent out for Flip or Flop Season 8. In it, Christina referenced the growing pains the show will experience as the hosts learn to navigate this “all new territory.”
“Since we have to see each other every day, it’s beyond awkward,” Christina said in a press release. “I’m planning on staying friendly and keeping things light.”
But you know what they say about the best-laid plans! Things rarely turn out the way they’re intended in these situations, especially under circumstances as unique as Christina and Tarek’s. Can you imagine going through a difficult breakup and then having to go back to working with your ex like nothing has changed?

A lot has changed for the HGTV stars and parents of Taylor, 7, and Brayden, 2. Since the end of their marriage, both have reportedly found new love. Christina is happily dating British TV personality Ant Anstead, and Tarek has recently been linked to lingerie model Patience Silva.
Although the exes have kept things largely amicable since their split, an “inside source” (we use that term skeptically) tells Us Weekly that viewers will get a glimpse into the reality of their recalibrated relationship.
“[This season] is a little bit more edgy. They’re showcasing a more personal side, that they are an ex-husband and ex-wife having disagreements,” the source told Us, noting that tension between the two will be evident. Per the source, Season 8 “will definitely shed more light on their relationship and be more interesting.”

Intrigued yet? Us too. Since we’ve all been through a breakup at some point, it will be refreshing to see television personalities address it in a way that feels authentic. If HGTV expects fans to remain invested in the show, those fans need to feel like everything isn’t staged — especially since Christina and Tarek’s marriage was such a central part of the show from the start.
