Jennifer Lopez Knows How She Does Not Want to Be Proposed To

A note to former Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez: Jennifer Lopez isn’t expecting a ring, but she already knows how she wants you to propose. On Wednesday, Lopez sat down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show after the 2018 Catholic-themed Met Gala to discuss her second appearance at the high-profile event with Rodriguez in tow as well as her new single, the meaning behind the title and what she hopes for if she’s ever going to get married again — starting with the proposal.

Lopez’s newest single, “El Anillo,” (roughly translated to “The Ring” in English) is rumored to be about Lopez’s relationship with Rodriguez, but she said it’s more than that too. “The song is definitely about that, it is, but I felt like it was kind of something that all women get to a point where they say, ‘OK, what’s up?’” she told Fallon. “Like, we’re good, everything’s great, what’s going on? Am I staying or am I [going]?”

Fallon held up a photo of the couple at this year’s Met Gala and joked, “Alex, are you watching? Hello!” But Lopez isn’t worried. “No pressure,” she said.

She made similar comments Wednesday morning on Today. When cohost Savannah Guthrie asked if listeners should be reading into the song, Lopez laughing declared, “No!”

When asked if she’d like to be proposed in a similar way to rapper 2 Chainz’s proposal to his longtime girlfriend at this year’s Met Gala, Lopez replied, “I think I would want it to be a tiny bit more intimate.” Sadly, she didn’t offer up any suggestions on just how intimate she’d want her next proposal to be.

Lopez has been married three times. In April, she told Harper’s Bazaar that she isn’t ruling out a fourth trip down the aisle, but she’s in no hurry: “I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. But I’m not forcing anything right now. It’s good, it’s healthy; we communicate well. We understand each other’s lives in a way that most other people couldn’t.”

We totally respect her for wanting to take her time. Hopefully, when the right time comes, Rodriguez pops the question in a style more suited to their relationship.
