The Queen Gifted Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Yet Another House

It’s only been a few weeks since the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now known simply as Duchess Meghan of Sussex, but it looks like Queen Elizabeth II is still feeling quite loving and festive. You see, even though Harry and Meghan already have a home on the grounds of Kensington Palace, a quaint little cottage right next door to Prince William and his brood, the queen has now seen fit to gift the newlyweds with another home. Talk about generous!

Glamour magazine reported on Sunday that in addition to the cottage at Kensington Palace, Harry and Meghan now also have a cottage — York Cottage — on the grounds of the Sandringham Estate for their use. Sandringham might ring a bell for fans of the royal family, but for those who don’t readily know, Sandringham is a beloved home away from home for the queen and has been for years now. Harry and Meghan also aren’t the first royal family members to receive such a great gift from the dear queen: Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly known as Kate Middleton, were gifted Anmer Hall at Sandringham Estate shortly after their marriage.

The cottage, which is really more of a mansion in regular-people terms, dates back to the days of King Henry VII, who passed it down to his son, King George V in 1893. The home also reportedly has a fun, “eccentric” atmosphere according to Metro, and it is said to look like “three Merrie England pubs joined together,” which we think is the right kind of atmosphere for a vacation home, TBH.

There’s no word yet on when exactly Harry and Meghan will christen the cottage as their own, seeing as they’re tied up with various public duties right now. They’re also prepping for their honeymoon in Alberta, Canada.

Just looking at photos of York Cottage, we’re already thinking about maybe turning up and moving in, you know, just to see if the house is really on par for Harry and Meghan (*wink, wink*). Or if the queen is still feeling generous, perhaps she has another cottage lying around that she’d like to gift? To us? Pretty please?
