The 72nd Annual Tony Awards certainly didn’t disappoint on Sunday night, with big wins and surprises for musicals like Once on This Island and The Band’s Visit. However, the things viewers don’t see on TV always round out a fun night on Broadway. From the red carpet photos you didn’t see to the backstage hangouts to the after parties, the 2018 Tony Awards didn’t disappoint.

Since we are total musical theater geeks, here are some of the best moments of the night that happened before, during and after the show.
We loved these red carpet sightings
Well, it wasn’t the driest red carpet out there, so Tony Awards host Sara Bareilles had her own team of personal umbrella and dress holders to get her safely inside the theater. It takes a village.
If you can’t beat the rain, use it to your advantage, right? That’s exactly what former Glee star Matthew Morrison did on the red carpet ahead of the evening’s proceedings. He gave his best Gene Kelly impression by singing and dancing in the rain.
Andrew Garfield’s denounces President Trump backstage

Garfield won his first Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for Angels in America, but the British-American actor also isn’t a fan of the current U.S. administration. He denounced the president backstage after he won his award.
“The person in the White House right now is the antithesis of the value system of this play,” he told the press backstage.
Backstage at the Tonys
When we have an epic group including former Hairspray star Marissa Jaret Winokur, Amy Schumer, Tina Fey, Jesus Christ Superstar Live actor Brandon Victor Dixon and Rachel Bloom, we want to know what the conversation was about backstage. Someone has to give us the scoop!
We were trolling for this selfie on both Schumer and Bloom’s social media accounts all night. It hasn’t turned up yet. Bloom was wearing one of her famous tiny hats as the Tony Awards backstage correspondent. However, not everyone appreciated her humor, especially when she spoofed the language used in Mean Girls — we are talking to you, Neil Patrick Harris.

It doesn’t look like NPH was expecting a response from Bloom, who had the last word even though he lamely tried for a comeback. Better luck next time, NPH.
Indeed! Well said. Thanks for the reminder. How was backstage?

Legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber was the life of the party, playing DJ and spinning “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” on the turntable at an after-party.

With all these Broadway stars in attendance, it’s always a guarantee that some reality star will sneak into the after-party. This year’s Tony Awards celebration gave us a Real Housewives of New York City cameo, with Sonja Morgan showing up to the late-night festivities.
