The Real Reason Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez Aren’t Talking About Marriage

Sometimes, the best thing to do for a relationship is to let it simmer over low heat rather than crank it all the way up to boiling. That’s what Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are doing, and we totally respect their style. The power couple, together since February 2017, aren’t rushing to the altar anytime soon, which Lopez confirmed again on Good Morning America this week.

“We have to take our time,” Lopez said on Wednesday’s episode. “I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my past and… we’re mature now. We’re grown-ups, and we’re going to take our time and we’re going to do things at our own pace. And our life right now is incredibly wonderful. Between our kids and our work, we’re truly blessed. We don’t need anything more right now.”

In May, speculation over her new single “El Anillo,” (roughly translated to “The Ring” in English) led to questions about whether Lopez was hinting for a proposal from Rodriguez. She told Jimmy Fallon there’s “no pressure”. In fact, she’s been saying that for months. Her appearance on Good Morning America continued to solidify how happy Lopez is just taking things one day at a time.

“The song was written about the two of us, but it’s not about two of us,” she said. “It’s not like I’m like, ‘Hey! Where’s my ring?’ No, it’s not like that.”

Lopez is currently in the middle of a Las Vegas residency — in fact, she recently celebrated her 100th show on the Strip. She has fewer than 20 performances to go before the residency ends in late September. Lopez said Rodriguez is particularly fond of the “Jenny from the Block” portion of the show for obvious reasons. “I wear the number 13,” she said, which was Rodriguez’s jersey number when he played for the New York Yankees. “The first time he came to see the show, he was like, ‘You got Yankee hats up there … That was always in your show?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He was like, ‘Wow, this is a sign.'”

Maybe he was right. Both Lopez and Rodriguez have been married in the past, and it didn’t work out. Taking things slow could be exactly what they both need to make their romance last for the long haul, but we won’t lie: We’re eager to know if and when these two will tie the knot.
