Production on American Horror Story Season 8 is still in the early stages, and already, series creator Ryan Murphy is dropping some tantalizing details about what fans can expect. After the eerily relevant Season 7, Cult, which was all about a titular cult terrorizing a queer woman in the immediate aftermath of President Donald Trump’s election, it looks like Murphy is pushing the boundaries further for the next installment in television’s most exciting anthology series.

While chatting with Entertainment Weekly recently, Murphy teased some telling details about both the casting and the vibe of the next season. Word to the wise: Prepare yourself, because things are going to get really interesting, really fast.
“It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode five,” Murphy tells EW. “You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat. It’s a very high concept.” Excuse us, but a high-concept season that’s going to bring back tons of characters we know from previous seasons in both recurring roles and cameos? Yes, please!
Now, as to which AHS alumni could specifically be coming back, Murphy remained mum. While The Wrap confirmed that AHS regulars Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter, Evan Peters and Leslie Grossman will be returning, it’s been speculated that regulars like Angela Bassett, Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton could also be coming back. The jury is still out on Jessica Lange, but God, we can only hope.
Interestingly, Joan Collins has also been confirmed for Season 8, making her the newest addition to the AHS troupe, and The Wrap reported that rumors were going around about Anjelica Huston possibly joining for Season 8, but her representatives didn’t confirm that.
We also know that in addition to being a high-concept season (which could be anything from heavy stylization to unique storytelling elements like time jumping or breaking the fourth wall), Season 8 will take place 18 months from the day some of the first details were confirmed, back on April 6, 2018. That means that, theoretically, Season 8 begins on Oct. 6, 2019, which one Reddit user noticed was the anniversary date of a speech former president John F. Kennedy made about constructing bomb shelters, leading them to believe that AHS Season 8 would be titled Radioactive or something similar and be focused on nuclear war.

It’s all coming together in AHS land, so stay tuned. Even though the details are still somewhat vague, it’s hard not to get excited about what we do know… and what we think we know.
