Chef Gordon Ramsay may have built his career on being a tough guy in the kitchen, but loyal fans know the restaurateur is a big softie at heart. Case in point? The celebrity chef’s latest extracurricular during which he helped make dreams come true for 32 kids in only 24 hours.

Such an intense challenge doesn’t sound too unlike something you might see on one of Ramsay’s shows — MasterChef or his new series, Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back. However, this challenge proved much more personal.
It all started with a call from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, who asked Ramsay if he’d be interested in reaching out to children with critical illnesses and sharing the good news that their wish had been granted. The only catch? Ramsay would only have 24 hours to make as many “house calls” as possible, with the initial challenge being to meet with 24 kids.
Of course, Ramsay isn’t exactly the kind of guy to do just enough. Per the norm, he proved to be a little bit extra — squeezing in an impressive 32 visits. Among the wishes Ramsay helped grant were building a computer, touring Jay Leno’s garage, meeting James Corden and, naturally, mingling with the chef himself.
“What a day, an amazing day,” Ramsay says in a video reel filmed for Make-A-Wish. “Getting a chance to meet these incredible kids and seeing their strength and understanding their excitement is mind-blowing.”

Ramsay’s day of goodwill isn’t the first (and surely won’t be the last) time the tough-talking chef has revealed his softer side. In fact, Ramsay and his wife, Tana, formed their own charity — — expressly for the purpose of helping those less fortunate.
Since being formed, the foundation has joined forces with the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to “give some of the sickest children the best chance in life.”

In 2017, Ramsay even put his money where his mouth is to help raise money for that cause. Despite being a vocal critic of pineapple as a pizza topping, Ramsay agreed to scarf down a piece of pineapple pie under one condition.
“I’ve got a proposal for YOU,” he wrote on Instagram. “If we can hit 500 donations in the next 48 hours, I will eat this f**king god-awful PINEAPPLE pizza on Facebook Live.”

A man of his word — and a good one at that — Ramsay took to Facebook Live the following week to eat a slice of pineapple pizza for the sake of sick children everywhere. That doesn’t mean he had to enjoy it, though. Despite being a sport and swallowing the fruit-topped pizza, Ramsay joked, “The only thing Hawaiian on this board is the fact that I’d love to drop it in the ocean.”
