Another day, another Bachelor Nation scandal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lincoln Adim — a contestant currently competing on The Bachelorette — was convicted last month of indecent assault and battery stemming from an incident that occurred in 2016.

The 26-year-old Nigeria native is one of 28 suitors presently vying for Bachelorette Becca Kufrin’s affection on the ABC dating competition franchise. His legal woes, though, trace back to May 30, 2016, when Adim reportedly groped and assaulted an adult female aboard a harbor cruise ship.

Despite the news just breaking, Adim’s conviction actually came down on May 21, just one week shy of The Bachelorette premiere.
“The judge ordered him to stay away from the victim and attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week during those two years,” read a statement acquired by The Hollywood Reporter. “If he complies with the judge’s orders, he will not have to serve out his term, but if he fails to comply with those orders or re-offends, he could be ordered to serve out the year behind bars. By law, he is expected to register as a sex offender.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first case of bad behavior by a suitor to cause controversy in Kufrin’s season, and the show is merely a few weeks in. Early frontrunner Garrett Yrigoyen came under fire in May 2018 for his social media behavior — screen-grabs of his Instagram activity suggested the medical sales rep from Nevada had previously mocked everyone from undocumented immigrants to the trans community to feminists.
It remains to be seen whether Adim’s conviction will come into play this season and, if so, how Kufrin will handle the news. Adim got off to a good start with his debut, during which he told the Bachelorette, “Arie is a wanker!” Not to mention, Bachelor Nation fans have been falling all over themselves over that accent of his.
Alas, as all loyal viewers of the franchise know, suitors are often not what they seem… and Adim already had a few red flags before the unsettling news of his conviction broke.
For starters, in a Facebook Live stream ahead of the season, host Chris Harrison readily admitted that Adim is involved in drama essentially the entire time he’s on the show.

As they say, though, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. We’d be much more interested in hearing what Adim has to say (or could possibly say) in his defense when Kufrin confronts him over the recently revealed assault conviction.
