Is Eileen Davidson Leaving The Young & the Restless for Good?

Well, this is a big bummer for fans of The Young and the Restless. On Wednesday, longtime Y&R star Eileen Davidson announced on Twitter that she would once again be leaving the show. The announcement has seemingly come out of the blue, but Davidson’s announcement implies she might be ready for a change of pace.

Davidson chose to announce the big news on her Twitter account, writing, “Yes I am leaving my second home @YandR_CBS in September. I’ve been so blessed to be able to play Ashley Abbott and work with the amazing people on the show and have nothing but gratitude and love for all!!! Time for a little more control over my day to day!”

September may feel like a long way away, but fans of Davidson’s agree that’s hardly any time at all when it comes to spending time with the character she originated in 1982 and has played off and on for more than 30 years, Ashley Abbott. While this is Davidson’s second time leaving Y&R (she first left in 1988 and didn’t return until 1999), there’s no telling if this time she’s leaving for good or if she’s just taking some time off to relax and focus on other projects.

Fans were definitely sad to see her go, with some tweeting out forlorn comments about Genoa City not feeling quite like their second home with her leaving. Other fans found an amusing silver lining when they suggested in the comments that Davidson should return to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or, if she still wants to stay in the world of soaps, Days of Our Lives.
