Frank Underwood, who? In keeping with tradition for its House of Cards promotional material, on the Fourth of July, Netflix posted a brief but chilling video of President Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) wishing the country a happy Independence Day. Well, kind of.

Against a black backdrop and sitting on a marble monument throne, the newly minted President Underwood says, “Happy Independence Day… to me.” The brief clip then cuts away from Wright’s visage, replacing it with a hashtag: #MyTurn. Netflix has also updated the House of CardsTwitter account to reflect the new direction of the series for its sixth and final season, adding the hashtag to the series’ bio.
Entertainment Weekly shared the promo, noting that the hashtag is representative of an important narrative switch for the final season of the show. After five seasons of Claire’s husband, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), occupying the oval office, now it’s her turn.
The regime change comes after Netflix fired Spacey after multiple allegations of sexual assault surfaced in October 2017. The future of the series seemed to be up in the air for some weeks after actor Anthony Rapp told BuzzFeed that Spacey allegedly assaulted him at a party in 1986. Netflix executives said they were “deeply troubled” by the allegations and said the series would end with its sixth season, but it wasn’t until December that, according to Fortune, they confirmed the show would carry on without Spacey, who was previously the star and executive producer.

We got our first glimpse of President Claire Underwood in March, when Netflix released a 30-second promo for the final season. There’s no official release date for season six, but the show’s Twitter bio says fall 2018. It seems like we’re rapidly approaching premiere day, and we’re so ready to see what this season has in store.
