Carabinieri (the Italian police force) Lt. Alberto Cicognani told NBC News the Oscar-winning actor was on his scooter near the city of Olbia when a car reportedly cut in front of him, causing a collision. Cicognani also said an ambulance eventually took Clooney to the hospital, where he was reportedly given an MRI. Per Cicognani, Clooney was “not seriously injured.”
CNN also spoke with Cicognani, who said Clooney was hit by a Mercedes, which caused Clooney to be thrown over the top of his scooter. Cicognani told CNN he spoke with Clooney, who said he was fine and also revealed he would go back to filming Catch-22 in a few days.
Giovanni Mannoni, an Olbia police commander, told CNN Clooney would be monitored for 20 days as an outpatient by the hospital. CNN also reports Clooney’s MRI came back clear. Mannoni also informed CNN police are investigating the accident.

According to People magazine, Italian news outlet La Nuova reported Tuesday that Amal Clooney went to the hospital to be with her husband and they reportedly left together via a private car. La Nuova also reported Clooney complained of a “slight trauma to the pelvis and bruises to one leg and an arm,” but he didn’t sustain serious injuries and was discharged. A rep for Clooney issued a statement to People shortly after the accident made headlines: “George was treated and released from an Olbia hospital. He is recovering at home and will be fine.”
The accident sounds like it could’ve been more serious than it was, so it’s good to hear Clooney is doing OK.
