Ellen Pompeo hasn’t shared the screen with Sandra Oh since 2014, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t still Oh’s “person.” When the 70th Primetime Emmy Award nominations were handed down on Thursday, Oh made the cut. And while it took the news a day to reach Pompeo, Oh’s former Grey’s Anatomy costar could not have been more excited for her friend.

On Friday, Pompeo took to Twitter to gush over Oh and her impressive accolade. “I was not on my phone yesterday and clearly missed ALOT!!! Congratulations @IAmSandraOh this is beyond well deserved and your history making is incredibly moving,” Pompeo wrote, referring to the fact that Oh is the first Asian American woman ever to be nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama.

In April, Oh gave a nod to her time on Grey’s for her now-Emmy-nominated turn as Eve Polastri in the BBC America thriller Killing Eve.
“There are so many profound things that Grey’s gave me,” Oh told The Hollywood Reporter. “I always feel like [it’s a question of] how do you want to grow? That decade on Grey’s was such an important experience of my life that the next thing that I was going to do had to feel as important and as interesting.”

It was Grey’s, said Oh, that gave her the confidence to turn down pilots that didn’t inspire her until the right one came along. And you better believe Pompeo has been there, cheering on her friend every step of the way.

Can you feel that, Grey’s Anatomy fandom? That’s our cup, officially running over. We may not get to see Pompeo and Oh roaming the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital anymore (although, to be honest, we’re still holding out hope), but at least we know the actors are still empowering and supporting each other in real life.
