Good news, Grey’s fans! Your favorite medical drama is back in production, and we’ve got the pictures to prove it.
On Tuesday, cast members Debbie Allen and Giacomo Gianniotti both shared photos from the crew on their first day back filming. Despite feeling a bit sad about the absence of Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew, we’re unabashedly excited to see the good doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital together again — especially given a few context clues about what’s to come.

Let’s begin with a group shot shared by Allen (Catherine), Gianniotti (DeLuca) and Grey’s official Twitter feed. In the cute pic, Allen and Gianniotti are squeezed into the frame with Ellen Pompeo (Meredith), Caterina Scorsone (Amelia) and Kelly McCreary (Maggie). Everyone is smiling and happy and not at all dark and twisty. In short, they look just as thrilled to be shooting again as we are to learn they’re shooting again.

“#GreysAnatomy’s Season 15 day one of shooting!” Gianniotti wrote. “Feeling very blessed to be surrounded by all these incredible women again who inspire me so much! Thank you to all the fans who came out today to watch us shoot, I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet all of you or get a picture with all of you but I feel your love so much! Thank you for being fans and thanks for sticking with the show for what is about to be 15 years!!!!”
Here’s what we can unpack from that. For starters, could we adore Gianniotti any more if we tried? Unlikely. We’re maxed out on the adoring-him meter. The second thing we can deduce is that the Italian-born actor will continue to grow in his role at Grey’s. In previous seasons, he has been a secondary character. However, with recent departures of more senior cast (Capshaw and Drew *sob*), it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Gianniottis’ DeLuca slide into a more prominent position.

In another photo from the first day of filming, Allen poses with Jesse Williams and McCreary — aka Jackson and Maggie. Although it could be argued that the three were simply posing together because they spend so much time together on set, it could also point toward “Jaggie” still going strong in the new season.

Other first-day photos are less indicative of any potential plot points for the upcoming season but a joy to see nonetheless. Like this pic of Chandra Wilson (Bailey) surrounded by fans.

Gianniotti even shared a photo of himself with James Pickens (Richard) in uniform at a Seattle Mariners game, where they got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Of course, Grey’s couldn’t resist building off the enthusiasm generated by the cast’s first-day-back photos. The series posted a teaser clip on Twitter, exclaiming, “PAGING OUR #GREYSANATOMY FAM! Season 15 beings September 27th! #TGIT”
