Robin Roberts Has a Sweet New TV Deal With Lifetime

Good Morning America cohost and daytime TV personality Robin Roberts just got a sweet new television deal with the Lifetime channel. With it comes the opportunity for Roberts to produce more of the stories that she’s passionate about, and that sounds like a win for us all.

Accordingto Variety, Lifetime announced earlier this week that it would be expanding the number of original movies that aired on the network in the coming year, with the goal to get 75 movies on the air during the next calendar year, 2019. This is where Roberts comes in. As part of this new initiative, she will be producing original movies and feature-length documentaries for Lifetime under the “Robin Roberts Presents” banner.

Variety also confirmed the first exciting project on Roberts’ new Lifetime slate: a biopic based on the life of gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. Additionally, each of the original movies created under Roberts’ banner will have “a companion documentary examining the real people depicted on screen,” according to the news outlet. Overall, the projects commissioned by Roberts will be based on real-life events and will have an instructional or educational focus — and we’re totally into that.

While Variety doesn’t comment on it, Roberts’ commitments to ABC don’t appear to be affected by this new deal. This is good news for us because we can’t get enough of Roberts and her creative vision.
