Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are going to keep everyone guessing about their marriage. The duo, who has been separated for eight years, are still sticking together despite their troubles — it’s become a relationship that’s hard to define.
The dynamic duo was spotted in Calabasas, California on Thursday, Nov. 7 after enjoying a dinner with mental health guru Jay Sherry, per E! Online. The rare outing even involved some PDA with Pinkett Smith wrapping her arms around her husband’s tall frame as he hugged her close into his body. Perhaps there is a reconciliation going on or maybe this is just the way they’ve consciously uncoupled?
Fans last saw them together in May when the 53-year-old actress showed up to support his big return to film at the Bad Boys: Ride or Die film premiere. Smith gushed about the former Red Table Talk host’s ongoing care and love. “I have always been blessed that there has never been a time in my life when I didn’t look to the side and have a ride or die right there,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “Jada is one of the most gangsta ride-or-die’s I’ve ever had.”
It was just a year ago that Pinkett Smith dropped a bombshell in her 2023 memoir, Worthy — she and Smith had been separated for years. She admitted in an NBC News interview that “by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.” The Set It Off star revealed that the situation was complicated. “In regards to, how do we present that to people? We hadn’t figured that out,” she added while noting that “there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce.”
The Smith clan, including their children, son Jaden, 25, and daughter Willow, 22, as well as Smith’s son Trey, 30, who he shares with ex-wife Sheree Zampino, run a tight ship. Pinkett Smith and the King Richard star might not be husband and wife in a traditional sense, but they will always show a united front. Her 2015 entanglement with August Alsina seems to be but a blip on their marriage radar.
“One thing I’ll say about you and I, is that there have never been any secrets . . . any relationship, in trying to get to a deeper understanding of love is going to be forged in the fire,” Pinkett Smith said in a revealing 2020 Red Table Talk episode.
“It’s not for the weak of heart. There are just certain things you have to go through,” Smith agreed.
