In case you missed it: Sophia Loren’s lookalike granddaughter Lucia-Sofia Ponti made her public debut at the Le Bal des Debutantes, also known as the Debutante Ball. She arrived at the star-studded event in a Giorgio Armani gown that paid homage to her grandma’s style, and now, we know who her date, or Cavalier, for the night was, and his family has ties to her grandma.
Okay, so a cavalier is a young man who escorts a debutante to make her formal entrance. And for Ponti, her cavalier was Count Alberico di Carpegna Brivio, per Hello! Magazine.
For those wondering, who is that? Well, he’s a private Italian aristocrat, part of the Carpegna family, a noble family in Italy.
Now, Loren claimed she’s actually linked to Italian nobles. While there are rumors of her mother, Romilda Villani’s distant noble connections, Loren herself talked about her reported lineage in her 2015 memoir, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: My Life.
She wrote, “I can still call myself Viscountess of Pozzuoli, Lady of Caserta, a title given by the House of Hohenstaufen, Marchioness of Licata Scicolone Murillo.”
(There is no direct familial connection between the Hohenstaufen and the modern Italian royal family, but it does give a unique link to Loren and the family and, by extension, her granddaughter and the family.)
For those who don’t know, Loren has two sons: Carlo Ponti and Edoardo Ponti. Edoardo has two children named Lucia Sofia (born on May 12, 2006) and Leonardo Fortunato (born on Dec. 20, 2010).
Carlos also has two children, Vittorio Leone Ponti (born on April 2, 2007) and Beatrice Lara (born on March 15, 2012).
In a previous interview with Hello! Magazine, Ponti talked about the ball and how her grandma inspired her style, “My grandmother always believed in timeless elegance and the importance of wearing something that reflects your true self. Growing up, she taught me the value of simplicity, tailoring, and always adding a touch of uniqueness to your outfit.”
She added, “Her wardrobe was filled with pieces that told a story, and I’ve carried that mindset with me.”
