King Charles III‘s wish to get Prince Andrew out of Royal Lodge has been an ongoing real–estate saga for over a year now. The monarch’s plan was to move his younger brother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former estate, Frogmore Cottage, but Andrew was having none of that.
While Charles cut off the Duke of York’s security and allowance, Andrew reportedly found new sources of funding that came from Middle East alliances. Now, that theory is being shut down by the Daily Mail because they think the money call is coming from inside the palace. If this rumor turns out to be true, it would be a wild twist to the story.
The U.K. outlet is calling it an “elaborate double bluff by the King” because their sources believe that Charles used his own funds to keep his brother in his beloved Royal Lodge for years to come. It’s a conspiracy theory that is baffling royal insiders.
“He [Andrew] just doesn’t have that many friends anymore. He barely goes out, he’s not that welcome anywhere,” the insider claimed. “So, it’s got to be family, and the obvious person is the King. I mean, why would anybody who’s not family want to give him money when they’re not going to get anything out of it except a lot of flak?”
A second source doubled down on those claims, promising that it was all “private funding” from Charles’ personal bank account. “The King has cleared it. It’s all done,” they added. This new insight comes on the heels of a Nov. 16 Daily Mail article that questioned Princess Beatrice’s frequent visits to the Middle East. The media outlet wondered if her trip to the Adipec energy conference in Abu Dhabi in early November had anything to do with her father’s sudden financial windfall.
“[Beatrice has] become a culture ambassador of sorts for the UK in the Middle East,” Al-Monitor journalist Jennifer Gnana told The Times in November. “She seems a popular, more accessible figure in the Middle East, particularly as we’re seeing fewer senior royals such as the King, Prince William and Kate making visits here. I suppose Princess Beatrice represents a more modern and accessible face of the British monarchy that works for engagement in the Middle East.”
The mystery surrounding Andrew continues, but it sounds like he won the real-estate war — Royal Lodge is his.
