Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s critics have a lot to say about the couple’s decision to separate parts of their professional life. It’s a way for them to individually make their mark while still pursuing the mission of their Archewell Foundation, but the naysayers think it has something to do with their personal relationship which just isn’t true.
Now, PR experts are chiming in with their thoughts on whether this is a good move for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the reviews seem mixed so far. NewsNation entertainment reporter Paula Froelich told The Daily Beast that Harry and Meghan’s “current reset” is designed “to show they are individual powerhouses” — Harry is focused on philanthropy and Meghan is taking the commercial route. “It’s working for Harry but not so much for Meghan. It’s going to be interesting to see how she handles being constantly upstaged by her husband,” she said.
It’s hard to judge Meghan’s passion project, American Riviera Orchard, because her Netflix cooking show and products haven’t hit the market yet. But she’s betting on herself big time in 2025 by taking on the CEO position, per Page Six. “As far as Meghan being quiet, she’s been in the background working on her entrepreneurial efforts, both the Netflix project and her brand will come out within the same timeline in the New Year,” a source said.
Yet The Daily Beast‘s experts are looking to Harry and Meghan’s less successful ventures, including her Archetypes podcast and his Heart of Invictus docuseries that weren’t exactly hits. Brand consultant Norah Lawlor spelled out what she thinks is the big issue in the couple’s news strategy. “The risk is that making L.A. engagements a ‘Meghan’ brand attribute and royal-type engagements a ‘Harry’ brand attribute will pull them further apart not just in terms of scheduling, but also in terms of mindset and goals,” she explained.
Ultimately, it will be up to their fans to decide whether they are with the Sussexes on each stage of their journey. The next big test for the duo comes on Dec. 10 with the premiere of their Netflix reality show, Polo, which looks rather juicy and could find an audience with the Bravo TV demographic.
Harry and Meghan know they have a lot to prove with their renaissance and they are hoping people will stick by them as they figure out their next chapter.
