Jennifer Lopez Took an Uncomfortable Comment About Her Age & Turned It Into an Inspiring Moment

Jennifer Lopez is 55 years old and she’s not going to apologize for it. It may have not been the best year for her, but she knows that fabulous things are ahead. So, when it awkward comment was tossed her way during a Q&A after a Los Angeles screening of Unstoppable on Sunday, Dec. 15, she turned around the uncomfortable moment and shared an inspirational message.

Variety Senior Awards Editor Clayton Davis called out Lopez’s 1997 film, Selena, in a video shared by TMZ. “I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since Selena,” he said. “I can’t believe that in 30 years we’re going to do a retrospective of this, and you will be 60 by then, which is…”

Lopez responded, “Wow.”

Davis then quipped that she was “getting up there.”

Most of the audience knew he was teasing her, but someone in the audience was heard saying, “Did he just say that?”

Lopez, who has been interviewed by Davis before, didn’t bat an eyelash and said, “I am” while Davis clarified it was a “joke.” The multitalented superstar let the comment fly and turned the conversation about ageism in Hollywood around — and she hit all the right notes.

“What a journey this has been, and I honestly feel that the best is yet to come,” she shared. “I honestly feel that my creativity and who I am as an artist is like you said… I also feel that this for me, was another kind of level of going deeper into who I am as a person or as an artist. And these type of roles change you. They come to you at times in your life when you need them, and they help you grow, and they heal you in a way.”

Lopez, who did not get a Golden Globes nomination for Unstoppable, is hoping to nab a SAG or Oscars nomination which will be announced in early 2025. She will also be hitting Sundance in January for the premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman, the highly anticipated movie musical produced by Matt Damon and her ex, Ben Affleck. It’s a role she was born to play!

“I just finished a movie called Kiss of the Spider Woman, where it was all singing and dancing, which was equal parts exhilarating and exhausting,” she said on Live With Kelly and Mark in May. “Now, I’m ready to go. I’m the thinnest I’ve ever been. I’m in fighting shape right now.”

Lopez is in her best era yet!
