Kelly Clarkson‘s divorce from Brandon Blackstock was finalized in 2021 after a long-drawn out battle over her Montana ranch. Now that there is time and distance from the split, pals of the daytime talk show host are reflecting on what went wrong in the marriage. Sadly, it sounds like it was a difficult partnership for Clarkson.
The biggest issue seemed to be Clarkson’s loneliness despite having a husband. “As time went on in their marriage, Kelly didn’t feel like she had a partner,” a Page Six source claimed. “Kelly felt single in a lot of ways even while she and Brandon were still married.” The insider noted that the 42-year-old talk show host often “attended school events for the kids by herself when other parents would attend with both the mom and the dad.” The former couple shares two kids, daughter River, 10, and son Remington, 8.
That sense of isolation also influenced her decision to move her life, and The Kelly Clarkson Show to New York City in 2023. She reportedly has “no regrets” about such a major life change and the children are thriving, according to the source. Clarkson echoed similar sentiments to USA Today in October 2023 — change is hard, but it’s good.
“I’ll be real honest: I thought I was making a horrible decision,” she said. “I knew I needed a fresh start and couldn’t be in LA… I feel like a weight has lifted. That move was very needed. I think the thing I’m most excited about with Season 5, on a selfish level, is just showing up to work smiling and actually meaning it. That’s a beautiful gift that you don’t realize until you’re out of it.”
The “Since U Been Gone” singer has made peace with Blackstock after their contentious divorce. The former duo is “being more amicable now and co-parenting with consideration,” according to a insider. “They probably won’t be breaking bread, but they can see eye to eye about the kids and are generally pleasant to one another.” Clarkson sees “no reason to hang on to grudges and let herself be weighed down by bitterness.”
Instead, the Page Six source revealed that Clarkson is “grateful” for the life she has now. They added, “She’s excited for what’s next.” We can’t wait either!
