Joey Lawrence is breaking his silence about his reconciliation with his wife, Samantha Cope. While didn’t specifically address the affair allegations but admitted that mistakes were made in his marriage.
Lawrence was promoting his holiday movie, Marry Christmas, which also stars Cope, alongside his brothers Matthew and Andrew in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Describing himself as “thankful,” the 48-year-old actor shared that the reunion with his wife was “great.” He added, “You know, you make some terrible mistakes, and it just feels great to have a second chance to get everything right.”
He also noted that it was “brutal” to go through the drama publicly, but he seemed accountable for his actions. “You make some serious mistakes and then you don’t handle things correctly — there’s a lot of pressure,” Lawrence continued. “Going through it publicly doesn’t make it any easier and then you make some more bad decisions.” Phew! It sounds like he and Cope went through it, but he professed his love for her several times during the interview.
That is a huge relationship turnaround for the actor who found himself in a love triangle between Cope and Melina Alves, his co-star on Socked In for Christmas. Cope filed for divorce on Aug. 13, but fans didn’t pay much attention to the news until Aug. 22 when TMZ was tipped off about a New Jersey divorce filing related to Lawrence. Alves’ husband, Edward Rider, alleged that his estranged wife was involved with her co-star “at various other times and places,” meaning the alleged affair was not a one-night stand.
Cope’s pal spoke with Peopleabout the messy situation on Aug. 23. “Joey met Melina Alves on the set of their movie, where she was a producer,” the insider claimed. “He then love-bombed her just like he love-bombed Samantha. He continued to date Melina even after Samantha found out about it and confronted him.” They also added that the couple tried therapy, but Lawrence would “get ready for dates with Melina while Sam watched, bawling her eyes out.”
Over the fall, Cope and Lawrence reconciled and shared the news with the world on Dec. 4 at a red-carpet event for their film. The relationship status change was apparently a surprise to Alves, though.
“While these situations are always multifaceted, I’d like to keep the details of it and my friendship with Joey private,” she wrote in a statement to People on Dec. 5. “As far as Joey and Sam reuniting and reconciling, it came as a surprise to me as everyone else, and if it’s true, I wish them all the love.”
Let’s hope Cope and Lawrence find their happy ending after a very bumpy 2024.
