Royal author Omid Scobie is taking inspiration from a story he knows very well. He’s known for his two books, Finding Freedom and Endgame, which chronicled Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s troubles at the palace. Now, he’s ready to tell a fictional tale that is very reminiscent of what the Duchess of Sussex experienced.

In July, Deadline announced that the 43-year-old author’s fictional book, Royal Spin, was bought by Universal Television to adapt for the small screen. He reportedly had a bidding war over the rights from nine studios which resulted in a lucrative seven-figure offer. The outlet described the storyline as “a fish-out-of-water workplace drama which follows an American press agent who leaves behind her high-octane career in D.C. for a communications job at Buckingham Palace.”

From the jump, the Meghan comparisons were drawn because she was an actress on Suitswhen she fell in love with Prince Harry. Their difficulty with the palace and subsequent exit from their royal roles has been highly chronicled by Scobie, so it’s no surprise if he took a page from their story. With Hollywood knocking at Scobie’s door, the Daily Mail is reporting that his “Emily in Paris crossed with The Crown” story has everyone buzzing.

“Let’s just say the plot isn’t a million miles away from Meghan’s account of what happened to her when she joined the Royal Family, just substitute ‘publicist’ for ‘actress,'” a source revealed to the media outlet. “You have this plucky woman who enters the Palace and comes up against the ‘men in grey suits’ who are stuck in Victorian times. The heroine is a thoroughly modern woman, a feminist, much like Meghan sees herself, yet she is stymied at every turn by stuffy royal aides.” The insider noted that royal watcher should expect the character to get “stuck in the middle of culture clashes” just like the Duchess of Sussex.

The author has reportedly moved to LA to “seek his fortune” and is planning to stay on the West Coast for approximately “three to five years.” Scobie and his dog, Yoshi, are reportedly enjoying the West Hollywood neighborhood as he settles into his new home.

There’s no word on how the Sussexes feel about Scobie’s Hollywood tale, but the book and series are likely to be a major hit. And it just might be another PR nightmare for the royal family.
