Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel are one of Hollywood’s cutest couples, but there’s one thing they haven’t done after getting engaged 16 months ago. The dynamic duo somehow hasn’t gotten around to planning their wedding to officially make them Mr. and Mrs. But don’t worry, their relationship is solid!
The 46-year-old HGTV star revealed the real reason why they’ve procrastinated on wedding planning so far — and it’s probably relatable to a lot of people. “I can guarantee you we have done absolutely 0% more work,” Scott told People. “We’ve just had a lot of things going on. Maybe that’ll be my New Year’s resolution — we’ve got to get this wedding figured out.”
While a date hasn’t been settled on yet, the Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers star and his bride-to-be have signed off on their vision for the big day. Scott described their dream wedding as “pretty intimate” and “surrounded by outlived ones.” They might even “throw another party just for friends here locally” in Los Angeles — but first, they have to get married.
The couple got engaged in August 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland and the day was a family affair with his future step kids, Elsie, 9, and Charlie, 7, who Deschanel shares with her ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. Scott recalled the romantic details to Page Six in April 2024.
“We were in Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, and we were the last people on the property, and I had it set up so they said, ‘Oh, there’s a pipe band playing. You want to go listen?’ Yeah, great.” As the pipe band started playing, they made their way up to the proposal spot,” he said.
“We went up to this beautiful bluff overlooking the city, and this pipe band [was] playing,” Scott continued. “And then all of a sudden a guitar steps forward and started playing Neil Young, our song, ‘Harvest Moon,’ and she’s like, ‘Wait, what?’ And then the kids pulled up a banner that said, ‘Will you marry me?’” Scott joked that he was a “blubbering mess” after Deschanel accepted his proposal.
Scott swore to Entertainment Tonight in December 2023 that they were “gonna get through the holidays and then we’re going to put our focus” on wedding planning, but 2024 somehow slipped by them. It’s OK, 2025 can be their wedding year… maybe.
