The Flip Off isn’t premiering until Wednesday, Jan. 29, but Heather Rae El Moussa is already speaking out about Josh Hall‘s exit from the show. The HGTV personality and her husband, Tarek El Moussa, have been supporting Christina Haack through her very public divorce.
The foursome was originally supposed to be pitted against each other in a couples’ battle on the home renovation show — the El Moussas versus the Halls. But Haack’s split from Hall derailed that premise after the show began filming and the network hasn’t been shy about showing the dynamic between her and her estranged husband. Now, Heather is weighing in about Hall — and she’s not really sad that he’s gone.
“[The dynamic is] better,” Heather explained to Us Weekly. “Not to be mean, but he definitely didn’t have the best personality. So, it’s like a breath of fresh air — and [Christina is] in a really good place.” Haack is also backing up her ex-husband’s wife’s claims, she believes he should have been grateful for hitching a ride on her coattails.
“This isn’t Josh’s show. No one’s going to miss that he’s not in it,” Haack added. “Josh is not a TV host, he’s not a house flipper, he’s not a designer. He was just my husband in it. With Tarek, we built everything together, and I still have respect for him. I have no respect for Josh.”
Hall isn’t going to go down without a fight though. In his divorce filing, he requested to gain equal rights to the HGTV and Discovery shows that they worked on together during their three-year marriage, including The Flip Off and Christina on the Coast. The duo did not have a prenuptial agreement, and California is a community property state.
Family law attorney Aliette H. Carolan, Esq. told SheKnows in July 2024 that “Josh will likely preserve his rights to the shows he participated in.” Carolan, who is not representing either party in the divorce, noted that “Christina would share in those rights, as well, just like he is likely to reap some financial benefit in connection to her rights and interests in the shows produced during the marriage.”
It’s unclear right now how far into filming the cast of The Flip Off was, but from the sneak peek clip and promotional photos, Hall did participate in the series. He’s off the cast list now, but there will likely be a financial payout in the end.
