Why Hugh Jackman & Deborra-Lee Furness Have Not Filed for Divorce Yet

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furnessrevealed their split in September 2023, and he’s already debuted his romance with Sutton Foster. Foster filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, Ted Griffin, in October 2024. But what might surprise Jackman’s fans is that he is still married to his wife of 27 years — there’s reportedly a holdup in their divorce.

There may be issues surrounding their finances because Jackman and Furness didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement before marrying in 1996, per the Daily Mail. With the Wolverine star reportedly worth $100 million and Furness’ net worth estimated to be $50 million, per Celebrity Net Worth, their split could get “messy.”

“When they got married, they thought it would be forever. Who doesn’t? At the time, neither of them expected Hugh’s career to get as enormous as it has,” a source told the media outlet. “Because there was no prenup, and he made a fortune during their marriage, this divorce is not going to be cut and dry. It may even get messy because the stakes are high.”

In addition to the financial aspects of their split, Furness is also dealing with her estranged husband’s alleged affair with Foster. The musical theatre duo worked together from December 2021 until January 2023 on the revival of The Music Man where their reported fling was “Broadway’s worst-kept secret.” Everyone seemed to know about the relationship except for Furness, per Us Weekly.

Foster wasn’t very subtle about her budding friendship with her co-star. In a July 2022 appearance on Live With Kelly and Ryan, she gushed about their pre-show ritual in her dressing room. “We hang out in my dressing room before every show and just catch up. Somehow we ended up sitting … maybe because my dressing room’s a mess, we sit on the carpet,” Foster explained of their daily “carpet chats” with just the two of them. “We’ve become really good friends, and we just talk and catch up on our day,” she added. “That’s been one of the best parts of the whole thing, that I’ve made this wonderful new friend.”

Little did Furness know that Jackman’s close friendship with Foster was allegedly a blossoming romance. The united front they shared in their breakup announcement might not be as cordial anymore. “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the statement read, per People, in September 2023. “Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.”

Now, a legal fight might change how Jackman and Furness feel about each other as they battle over marital assets.
