Joe Jonas Has Fans Doing a Double Take After the TikTok Ban Was Confirmed

Like 170 million other Americans, Joe Jonas has been dreading the soon-to-be TikTok ban. The ban, officially confirmed by the Supreme Court on Friday, is set to kick in on Jan. 19 — a.k.a. tomorrow. There’s still some confusion about what exactly will happen to TikTok in the United States — will the app limp along in a slow, painful spiral of glitches because it can’t update anymore? Will REDNote become the new TikTok? Will TikTok users be left staring at a goodbye message, kind of like what 200 million people in India saw when their country banned the app back in 2020?

Facing the uncertainty, TikTok users are downloading their favorite videos, squeezing in some last-minute confessions or secrets they’ve never dared to share — or, if you’re Joe Jonas, you finally scroll through one of the million makeup tutorials on the app for a nostalgic, fierce parting gift.

On Friday night, the musician posted a playful clip, dressed in a silky black gown, a dirty blond wig styled into a slick bob, and expertly applied makeup, complete with bold red lipstick. The TikTok featured Jonas lip-syncing to a line from the ’90s series Are You Afraid of the Dark?, mouthing, “I’m going rollerskating. Don’t touch my stuff,” before confidently strutting away from the camera.

The video, which has already garnered 4.2 million views, drew a flood of reactions from fans. “Joe, was this in your drafts…?” one commented, while another quipped, “It’s giving ✨dance mom✨.” Comparisons to Selma Blair circulated in the comments, with one fan noting, “The lip color really does bring out the gorgeous color of your eyes 😌.”

As for the exact fate of the app, users are still pretty much in the dark. Outgoing President Biden has declined enforcing it in his final hours, citing logistical hurdles. Meanwhile, incoming President Trump claims he has the “political will” to decide TikTok’s future, despite his 2020 ban failing.

The app’s loss looms large for creators and fundraisers like Spencer Pratt, who recently pulled in $24,000 in a week via TikTok — a lifeline after losing his home to one of the Los Angeles wildfires

So while Jonas’ sassy salute might not save the app, it has been a welcome surprise as TikTok users spend as much time scrolling and sharing before the ban sets in.
