In the new third season of The Way Home, fans get to see a new side of Andie MacDowell. Her character Del is navigating a new relationship with her neighbor Sam (Rob Stewart), feeling the jitters of relationship firsts and even sneaking around from her family. To MacDowell, the story has been a joy to film.
“It’s important to me to give women a vision of someone that is not just a granny, you know?” MacDowell said at Hallmark’s The Way Home: Clips and Conversation event at the 92NY on Jan. 22. As a reminder, MacDowell shares kids Justin, 39, Rainey, 35, and Margaret, 30, with her ex-husband Paul J. Qualley.
“I mean, I love being a grandmother, I’m not putting that down, but Del has all the different colors of her life because we don’t just stop living as we age, we still have heart and we have soul and we have the strength and we have power,” she added. “So we’re very multi-dimensional people.”
“It’s nice to see a mature woman enjoying herself,” she said.
Previously, MacDowell opened up about her character’s new dynamic with her daughter Kat (Chyler Leigh).
“I’m glad she’s sneaking out to the barn like a teenager and that her daughter’s the one that finds the bottle,” MacDowelltold SheKnows ahead of the season premiere. “So that kind of role reversal, I think, is probably going to be a lot of fun for women my age, just to see a character that’s having a good time and behaving like a kid again and having fun, especially after everything that Del’s been through.”
Also in the chat, MacDowell shared that while she’s happy for Del’s new love story, she’s still happily single.
“My life is so full,” she said. “I just had a new grandbaby, I’m about to have another grandbaby, I’m gonna have three grandbabies and I have a lot of wonderful friends.”
“If it came into my life, I’d take it, I just don’t need to hunt for it,” MacDowell said of a possible romantic connection. “I’m very satisfied with my life, I don’t think anything’s missing for me.” Of course, her statement was then met with applause from the room.
