And just like that, we’ve made it to episode four of The Way Home! But before you start thinking that we’re finally going to put some puzzle pieces together, it seems the mysteries surrounding the Landry family are only beginning.
But before we get into some unanswered questions, let’s get to some lighter news first. Kat (Chyler Leigh) and Elliot (Evan Williams) seem as in love as ever now that they’ve moved in together.
“How did summer go by so fast?” Kat asks as they wake up together. “These last few days together haven’t been enough. Do we think we could just skip the part where we go back to real life and get boring and just stay here?”
“We could but we’d get pretty hungry,” Elliot jokes back. “Plus you and me, boring? Never!” How adorable is that?
Not long after, Kat makes her way to her family home and invites Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) for some back-to-school shopping. After they leave the house, however, they decide to jump back in the pond and investigate 1974 instead. After all, they’ve got too many questions to go window shopping!
“You’re gonna love your great-great-grandmother,” Kat tells her daughter and they walk away from the pond. “I mean, she’s a little left of center but still.”
Before they get to the house, Alice sees Evelyn (Devin Cecchetto) and feels compelled to help. “We can divide and conquer?” Alice suggests. “You find out about what Fern knows about 1965 and I’ll learn more about the hidden messages.”
Back in the present, Del (Andie MacDowell) receives another mysterious anonymous letter. “I know about your family. Soon, they all will,” the letter reads. “Tell them Dellie, tell Kat and Jake,” her vision to Colton (Jefferson Brown) says. “I can’t, they’ve already been through so much,” she answers. “I don’t them to have to carry that fear. What if I can’t protect our kids, Cole?”
In the next scene, Del joins Jacob (Spencer MacPherson) in Lingermore after an invite from Louis Goodwin (Philip Riccio), aka the man who barged into Kat’s book launch in episode 1 of season 3.
“I have a business proposition for you, Jacob,” Louis says after handing them a glass of wine. “Because you have quite a reputation around here, elevating your family’s produce with your new-age farming techniques. I’d like to hire you as a consultant, apply your knowledge to my vineyard.”
But as Louis tries to charm Jacob, he’s distracted. After all, the last time he was in Lingermore he was being tortured by Cyrus Goodwin (Tim Post) back in 1814. Now, a vision of Cyrus is looking at him and threatening him at every corner.
“Is it great?” Louis says as Jacob is hypnotized by a painting of Cyrus. “It’s Cyrus Goodwin himself, my family’s founding father.”
Back in 1974, Alice joins Evelyn at her home (also Lingermore), and the two witness Colton (Jordan Doww) asking young Del (Julia Tomasone) on a date after that disastrous first impression at the beach.
“We got off on the wrong foot at the cove,” Colton says. “You mean the night you said I have horrible taste in music?” Del says, before nodding to the radio playing “Waterloo” by ABBA. “Hey, have you heard of these guys? ABBA? They just won Eurovision,” she says. “You know, this song, I just can’t stop listening to it. I think they’ve really got something.”
“I’ve been an idiot, let me make it up to you,” Colton responds. “Let me show you around, give you a tour of all of Port Haven, what do you think?” “I think you didn’t answer my question,” Del jokes back. Their first date is officially a go!
Back in present-time Lingermore, Jacob is unraveling the more he stays inside the house. “I can’t be here, I can’t do this,” he tells Del. “Not with that man, not that family.” The two then leave right away.
Instead of getting some clues with Grandma Fern in 1974, Kat finds herself digging through the past with Jasper Coyle (Eli Ham). “Calm down this is all ridiculous,” Grandma Fern says in a tape from 1965. At the time, the town was voting to fill the Landry pond. According to the recording, two kids, seemingly young Evelyn and Colton, almost drowned.
“You Goodwins need to stand down,” Fern continues. “The pond is important to my family and more than that it’s on my property, I can do what I want.” Young Evelyn then chimes in. “I have something to say!” she says. “The pond is special, it’s magic! You’ve got it all wrong.”
As Kat investigates her mystery, Alice and Evelyn come to spy on Colton and Del’s first date. “Oh no, I’m not really a boat person,” Del says when he sees his plan for their date. “You’ll be fine,” he responds. “You just don’t know how fun it is because you’ve never been on a boat with me.”
A few scenes later, Colton and Del return from their boat ride, and tensions are running high. “Why didn’t you listen? I told you I didn’t like boats!” Del says, hinting that she’s gotten seasick during the ride. “You have no idea what I like, you don’t know me at all so stop pretending like you do.”
“I’m not pretending,” Colton replies. “You’re right, I don’t know you, but I want to.”
As Del begins to storm off the pier, Colton whips out his guitar and starts singing – you guessed it – “Waterloo” by ABBA. It’s one of those rom-com moments who just can’t help but love. And just like that, Colton and Del kiss for the very first time!
Back in 2025, Del sees Jacob’s back full of scars and demands an explanation. “It was Cyrus, he didn’t just imprison me. He tortured me,” he says. “I would’ve died but Kat, she saved my life. Her and Susanna nursed me back to health. That’s how I got these scars, that’s what I’m still dealing with.”
“I know you want me to stand on my own but I am struggling,” Jacob says between tears. “The scars might’ve happened 200 years ago but for me, it’s only been nine months.”
“I’m broken, Mom,” he says. “I don’t know if I’ll ever heal.”
Del then swallows her tears and supports her son. “You’re not broken Jacob, and you will heal and I’ll be here to help you, okay?” she says.
Back in 1974, Alice gets to the bottom of Colton’s mystery jump in the pond after Rick’s funeral in episode 3.
“My Grandma Fern, she used to fill my head with these stories as a kid about how the pond was magic,” Colton says. “Even told me it could take someone back in time. I never took her seriously though, but on the day of Rick’s funeral, I jumped in, just to see. I thought if I could go back in time, I could save them. Obviously it didn’t work and I was stupid to believe.” So there you have it, Colton wasn’t time traveling – at least not yet!
As Alice returns home, she tells her grandma about seeing her first date with Colton. Del then reminisces about the actual moment they fell in love.
“Pressure point, when you squeeze it, it makes you less nauseous, makes things a bit more steady,” Colton says as Del got sick again on their care ride home. “Is it working?” “Yes, it is,” Del responds. “Thank you for steadying me.”
From one romantic scene to another, Elliot and Kat are getting hot and heavy in the kitchen when Kat spots her dad’s sweater in the corner of the room. “This is my dad’s from 1999,” she says after Elliot said he thought it was Alice’s. “How is it here in 2025? I mean, can he time-travel to the future? Do you think he’s trying to get to us? Do you think he’s here?”
“No, traveling to the future is not possible,” Elliot says as Kat barges out to confront her mom.
Another mystery then continues as Alice and Noah (Alexander Eling) go on their first date together. As they chat and flirt, a friend of Noah’s, Louis Goodwin’s son Max, comes to join them. But when Alice asks about Casey, aka Kat’s mysterious former intern, Max is puzzled. “Who’s Casey?” he says. “Sorry, sounds like someone was lying.”
Of course, another episode of The Way Home ends with another set of mysteries beginning to unfold. Check out new episodes on Hallmark and Hallmark+.
