Prince Harry saw great success in his privacy case against Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers last week, reportedly settling for $12 million and a full apology for the “serious intrusion.” Still, the British newspapers are wondering why the Duke of Sussex didn’t show up for the first day of the trial because it was such an important case. Now, some insiders are speculating that the inauguration last week might have something to do with it.

President Donald Trump isn’t shy about sharing his opinion on Harry and Meghan Markle and his mass deportations could have possibly scared Harry into staying in the United States for now, according to The Telegraph. As of Jan. 16, Nile Gardiner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom and Bernard and Barbara Lomas Fellow at The Heritage Foundation — the Project 2025 think tank, was working hard to get Prince Harry’s U.S. visa revoked. Gardiner was irritated that the Sussexes criticized Meta for removing third-party checking.

“For members of the royal family to engage in such overtly political matters is, quite frankly, highly inappropriate,” Gardiner claimed to The Daily Beast ahead of the Jan. 20 inauguration. “It goes against royal protocol. Their use of these titles to further their personal and political agendas makes a mockery of the royal family’s customary neutrality. Their statement wasn’t a moderate call for dialogue or understanding; it was an outright political rant.”

Gardiner has been advocating for Harry’s deportation after his admitted drug use in his 2023 memoir, Spare. Now that Donald Trump is in office and Gardiner is an ally of the president, it could make for a tricky situation for Harry. He confirmed with the New York Post on Jan. 23 that he is pressing Donald Trump to deport the Duke of Sussex.

“I’ll be urging the president to release Prince Harry’s immigration records, and the president does have that legal authority to do that. Donald Trump is ushering in a new era of strict border control enforcement, and you know, Prince Harry should be held fully to account as he has admitted to extensive illegal drug use,” Gardiner said. “My firm expectation is that action will be taken.”

In March 2024, Donald Trump, who is a big royal fan of King Charles III and Prince William, indicated that he would look into the matter if he was re-elected. “We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action,” he said, per Reuters.

Well, Donald Trump won the election, and it might be the reason why Prince Harry is currently curtailing his international travels. It’s an uncertain time for him and he likely wants to be by his family’s side.
