Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s life could change in the next month as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end faces a deadline for his retirement decision.
Kelce might still be reeling from Feb. 9’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles but another major career milestone is hanging in the balance and it will no doubt impact his personal life and relationship with Swift.
According to New York Times’ The Athletic, the Kansas City Chiefs are giving Kelce until March 13 to decide if he wants to continue his career in the NFL. While we’re sure Swift will be by Kelce’s side no matter what happens, this will no doubt impact their relationship which heated up during 2023’s football season before Swift supported Kelce all the way to his third Super Bowl win in 2024.
“She truly loves watching Travis play,” a source told People in Feb. 11 report. “Things seem great between them, and they’re incredibly happy together.”
Rumors about Kelce’s retirement have been circling throughout the 2024 football season but spiked after the Chiefs’ loss. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed the speculation during a post-Super Bowl press conference saying he was going to “let Travis make that decision on his own.”
“He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL,” Kelce’s teammate added. “And he’s been such a joy, not only for me to work with, but for people to watch.”
When Kelce returned to New Heights, the podcast he presents alongside his brother and former Eagles center Jason Kelce, for a Feb. 12 episode, only three days after the Super Bowl, he also spoke about the retirement decision.
“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year, and right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions,” he said. “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out. And, I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s a wholehearted decision. I’m not half-assing it, and I’m fully here for them.”
