The Way Home Season 3, Ep. 7 Recap: Alice Is Proven Right & Two New Time-Travelers Are Revealed

In every episode of The Way Home, viewers hope to get answers. But, more likely than not, we get more clues and doubts than actual answers. That is, however, until season 3’s episode 7.

For the first time this season –perhaps because the season finale is just a few weeks away (so sad, we know)– we’re finally getting some answers. This week, we’re finally getting to the bottom of this season’s biggest questions: Who is Casey? Is Casey from the future? Does Colton time travel?

Before we get into episode 7, look back on everything that has happened in The Way Home season 3 with our previous recaps:

Check out our episode 7 recap below!

The Way Home Recap: Season 3, Episode 7

Alice Was At Least Somewhat Right About Casey

One of the major focuses of this episode was Casey Goodwin (Vaughan Murrae). Earlier in the season, Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) speculated that they were a time-traveler from the future and, considering the ring on her necklace, they could even be her own child time-traveling to the past.

In this episode, we find out that Alice had every right to be suspicious. After finding a burning phone and a chess piece in the Lingermore attic, and learning from Max Goodwin (Dale Whibley) that there was a squatter in their home, Alice ties it all back to Casey.

“It’s a good theory but there’s still no definite proof that Casey was the squatter at Lingermore,” Kat (Chyler Leigh) says to her daughter. “Except that I was,” Casey chimes in, making their long-awaited return.

“[I lied about] being Louis’ kid yeah, but I really am a Goodwin,” they explained. “Louis is actually my second cousin. I lied because things were really bad for me at home last summer. I ran away from home.”

“Last summer was the worst one of my life, but then I met you and that internship was so much more to me than a job, Kat. You made me feel like family,” they continued. “That’s why I’m back now, I wanted to come and say thank you.”

As for the paperwork they delivered to save the Landry’s farm, Casey said they called in a favor with their parents and Sam (Rob Stewart). “Look, the Landrys did so much to me,” they said. “I just wanted to do something in return.”

While the explanation seemed plausible enough, Alice later ran into Kat outside her home. When questioned about her ring, however, Casey clearly panicked. “It’s a family ring,” they said. “Goodwin family?” Alice asks. “No,” Casey says before fleeing to the pond and jumping right in. Given that they don’t surface, Alice knows one thing for certain: Casey truly is a Landry!

Alice Helps Del & Kat Reunite

In episode six, Kat came clean to both Jacob (Spencer MacPherson) and Del (Andie MacDowell) about being involved in Colton’s fatal accident. But before Del took the time to forgive her daughter, Alice came clean about what actually happened that night.

“I tried to help but I made everything worse,” she says. “It was me. I was the one on the road that night that Colton crashed his truck and Mom was just pushing me out of the way but it was me, not her, okay? Can you just be mad at me?”

Soon enough, Del walks into karaoke night while Kat and Elliot are singing a weirdly somber version of “Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac and forgives her daughter with a hug.

“I was in shock, I needed time,” she says after. “But after listening to what Alice said, I started thinking, ‘If I had said something different to Cole that night, maybe we wouldn’t have gotten in the truck,'” Del says. “Alice was there, you didn’t have a choice. I would’ve done the same thing, I wouldn’t have hesitated had it been you. There is no greater pain than losing a child.”

As they finally reconciled, Kat said that she was planning on heading back to 1816 to get Jacob back. “I’m gonna go with you,” Del says, taking us all by surprise. But before Del has a chance to jump in the pond and time travel, Jacob walks right in.

Del Reaches an Impasse With Sam

Episode 7 also introduced a whole new mystery: what’s up with Sam Bishop?

Red flags start rising when Del confides in her friend Rita (Marnie McPhail) about the mysterious letters she’s been receiving. “I wasn’t gonna say anything before because it is not like me to gossip but a friend of a friend of my cousin Lucy in Toronto told me that Sam once tried a case against some white-collar criminal and got him sentenced to prison,” she says. “So what if this guy wants revenge and he’s coming for the people Sam cares about most?”

“Apparently, Sam was taking trips to the city for parol hearings to try to keep this guy in jail but he got out on his last appeal,” Rita continues.

A few scenes later, after Rita sends her an article confirming the gossip, Del confronts him. “You said you were going to Toronto to see your grandkids, but that’s not what you were doing there is it?” Del says.

“Have you been completely honest with me?” Sam quips. “We both know that there’s more to Jacob’s disappearance than you’re letting on. However hard a time trusting Colton before he passed, that does not mean that you can’t trust me.”

Clearly, Sam mentioning Colton was the last straw for her. “Don’t tell me how I feel about Cole,” she says before storming off.

Elliot & Kat Face Uncertain Waters

In one of the saddest moments in this episode, Elliot admits to Kat that Emma kissed him. “Kat, Emma kissed me while you were gone,” he says, before adding, “I kissed her back, I’m sorry.”

Of course, the news is heartbreaking for Kat to hear. “No, I pushed you away by going to the past,” she says. “We’re both guilty of just going down roads we shouldn’t have.”

Before she leaves, Elliot tries to understand where they’re at. “So, what happens now?” he asks. “I don’t know, do you?” she says back.

Later on, Kat decides to move out of Elliot’s. “I’m gonna move back in with my mom,” she says with tears in her eyes. “I was thinking, maybe Jacob could stay here for a while? He could really use a friend.”

“So does this mean we’re breaking up?” Elliot says. “All I know is that right now, I could really use a friend too.”

Colton Almost Proposes to Del

Back in the 70s, Alice sees teen Colton (Jordan Doww) say goodbye to Del (Julia Tomasone) after their incredible summer together.

“It’s not the end, it can’t be,” he tells her. “I might say I don’t believe in fairytales, but this, us, it’s the closest thing to one. Guess what that means? We get a happy ending, we just got to.”

After she’s suddenly driven off by Evelyn (Devin Cecchetto), a ring box falls from his pocket. When asked by Alice if he was going to pop the question, he brushes it off. “No, no I wasn’t,” he says. “That would be crazy, right? We’re too young, still in high school. Time to wake up from the dream.”

It’s Official: Colton Was a Time-Traveler!

One of the last shocking tidbits from this episode happened when we least expected it. When Jacob and Del are just resting at home, he finds an old picture of Colton when he was a teenager and immediately recognizes him.

“It’s him, that’s the boy from the farm, 1814,” he says. “He’s the one who told us what to plant, the potatoes and rye. That boy was Dad.” Much like Del in this scene, our jaws are on the floor with this one!
