Bachelor Couple Arie Luyendyk Jr. & Lauren Burnham Announce Pregnancy

Bachelor Nation is about to grow! Arie Luyendyk Jr., season 22’s Bachelor, and his fiancée, Lauren Burnham, are expecting their first child together. And while the baby news apparently came as a surprise to the couple, they couldn’t be more excited.

“I kind of had a feeling that I might be pregnant,” Burnham told Us Weekly. “So my friend insisted on bringing a pregnancy test over.”

Burnham took the test and asked Luyendyk to read the results when they were ready. “Arie came out with the test in his hand and tears in his eyes. He was like, ‘You’re pregnant!’” Burnham recounted.

Of course, like most first-time parents, Luyendyk and Burnham wanted to be sure — they immediately went out and bought six more pregnancy tests for the potential mama-to-be to take.

“Lauren took all of them and they were all positive,” Luyendyk said, adding, “We weren’t trying, but we are so excited. It’s going to be a whole new chapter in our lives.”

In fact, the pair has already gotten a taste of how a baby can shake up their routine. Two (dreaded) words: morning sickness!

“October was miserable,” Burnham admitted. “I had really bad morning sickness and barely left the house. But over the last week I’ve started feeling a lot better, so it’s nice to have my energy back.”

To help navigate these new waters, Burnham hired a trainer, who is helping her stay healthy and active through the pregnancy.

Luyendyk is doing his part too — according to his fiancée, he does everything around the house.

It would seem the couple has learned to play to their strengths in the relationship, and they seem comfortable with leaning into that when the new baby arrives as well. Luyendyk confessed to Us Weekly he’ll likely be “such a softie” when it comes to their kid, while “Lauren is a little bit more of a disciplinarian.”

Per Burnham, they base these assertions on the, ahem, wholly scientific logic of how they parent their dogs.

We’d say congrats are in order for the happy couple (and their dogs). It’s always nice to see a Bachelor Nation couple actually succeed, particularly when they got off to a bit of a rocky start.

Luyendyk didn’t exactly win over fans of the franchise when he proposed to Becca Kufrin on his season — only to realize he was in love with Burnham. What followed was a messy, brutal on-screen breakup with Kufrin before Luyendyk could propose to Burnham on the After the Rose special in March 2018.

They’ve since bought a home together in Phoenix, Arizona, and begun planning their January 2019 Hawaiian wedding. In September, the pair shared their invitations on Instagram, gushing, “January can’t come soon enough!”

Naturally, the pair’s baby news brought a brief moment of pre-wedding panic.

“The first thing we thought of was, ‘Oh my gosh. Our wedding,’” Burnham admitted. However, they’re staying the course and fully intend to make that trip down the aisle on Jan. 12.

“Obviously we’re not married yet, but this is the way it happened,” said Burnham, “and this is probably the way it was meant to happen!”
