Every year, Forbes releases their annual highest-paid reports, and while many industry heavy hitters topping the lists are often expected (I’m looking at you, Scarlett Johansson and George Clooney), others are surprising. And this year is no different. Many of 2018’s highest-paid women in music have appeared on the Forbes report before; however, their income and positions have changed. So, who tops the list?
Well, none other than Katy Perry!

This isn’t Perry’s first time taking the top spot. In 2015, Perry took the title from Beyoncé — thanks in large part to her “Prismatic World Tour” — but this year, she reclaimed her position, pulling in $83 million during Forbes’ scoring period. Perry played 80 dates of her “Witness” tour during this time, and she served as a judge on ABC’s American Idol, which earned her $20 million.
As for the other spots, Taylor Swift came in a close second, raking in just over $80 million thanks to Reputation’s release and the associated tour. In fact, she probably would have taken the top honor if her tour dates were different. (Most fell just outside the scoring period.) Beyoncé was No. 3, pulling in $60 million.

As for the rest of the list, some notable performers didn’t make the cut, including Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Selena Gomez, Madonna, Halsey and Janet Jackson. But it seems those who were nudged out are taking the “loss” in stride.
That’s the best thing about being a musician,” Halsey told Forbes. “You get to constantly show the world how you’ve changed and how you’ve grown. And you get to say, ‘Hey, look at me, look at how much better I am now than I used to be.'” And we love that attitude, Halsey. We really, really do.
