If you ever need a reminder that love is alive and well in Hollywood, look no further than cute celebrity couple incarnate John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, Krasinski confessed he couldn’t stop crying while he watched his wife play Mary Poppins in the highly anticipated Disney sequel.
In fact, he barely made it through the end of Mary Poppins Returns before he had to excuse himself to rein in his emotions.

“The first time I saw it, they give you a tissue box in the screening room, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s very nice. I don’t have a cold,’” Krasinski recollected. “And they started screening the movie and 25 minutes into the movie, I stood up and went to the back of the room.”
Blunt, noticing her husband’s absence, feared the worst — that he didn’t approve of the new adaptation.
“Emily said, ‘Do you not like it? I’ve never seen this happen.’ I was pushing through all of the muffins and bagels that were in the back looking for napkins. I was like, ‘I need anything to stop this crying!’” Krasinski said.
He continued, revealing, “I was crying so much I blew through the tissue box in 20 minutes, had to go to the napkins, and then, when I ran out of napkins, it was all sweater.”
The takeaway from Krasinski’s comically emotional response? “It’s honestly one of the most beautiful films,” he told DeGeneres. “I think it’s exactly what everybody needs at the holidays. It’s pure joy.”

This isn’t the first time Krasinski has gushed about his wife’s talent, especially in regard to musicals. Earlier this year, he told Vanity Fair he was blown away the first time he heard her preparing to sing in a role.
“It was really wild. It was like finding out that your wife can levitate. It was just like, ‘When were you going to tell me this?” said Krasinski.
In Mary Poppins Returns — which sees the iconic character from 1964 reappear to bring magic back into the now-grown-up lives of Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) Banks — Blunt sings on several tracks, two of which have already been released.
What’s potentially even more impressive is the fact that Blunt chose not to re-watch the original prior to stepping into Poppins’ inimitable shoes.
“Even though I’d seen the film as a child, I decided not to watch it when prepping,” Blunt told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview released on Tuesday. “She was so clear to me from reading that I decided not to be intimidated by the iconic Julie Andrews in the iconic role, and just approached it as I would any other part.”
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters everywhere on Dec. 19 — so, you know, stock up on tissues while you can.
