It’s been 12 years since J.J. Abrams’ Alias, starring Jennifer Garner, left the air. Now the director and actor are reuniting for a different type of project that will take a far more serious tone when it premieres. Joining the all-star lineup of creators and performers working on shows for Apple TV, Abrams will executive produce a limited series for the streaming service entitled My Glory Was I Had Such Friends, based on the 2017 memoir by Amy Silverstein.
As reported by Deadline, Garner is slated to star in the new series, which follows the lives of a group of women who supported Silverstein as she waited for a second life-saving heart transplant. Much like the book, the series will focus on the power of friendship and the incredible resilience of the human spirit. The script will be penned by Karen Croner, who also adapted the book The Tribes of Palos Verdes for a feature film in 2017. Garner starred in that project as well.
My Glory Was I Had Such Friends is Abrams’ second project for Apple TV under his Bad Robots banner. The other is half-hour romantic dramedy series Little Voice, written by Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson of Waitress.

After Alias wrapped in 2006, Abrams and Garner both went on to successful film careers, though this will be their first time working together since the suspense-filled action show. In addition to starring in this new limited series, Garner will also co-executive produce with Abrams, Croner, Silverstein herself, and Bad Robot head of TV Ben Stephenson (Westworld).
Apple TV’s lineup also includes a new series featuring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. There’s also Defending Jacob, which marks Chris Evans’ return to television, and more. While these series are all highly anticipated, episode counts and premiere dates have yet to be announced.
